Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – There was a volleyball match to be played in Sherman Gymnasium on Wednesday night despite the much more important cause that brought Illinois College together with MacMurray College for the annual Set, Serve & Rally for a Cure match. With a large crowd gathered in support of the Lady Blues, Highlanders and the Mia Ware Foundation, IC was able to come away with a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-13, 25-18) to improve to 9-13 on the year. MacMurray fell to 12-15 with the loss.
Lisa Lowry and
Holly Crocher shared match-high honors with 11 kills in the match. With those 11 kills, Crocher surpassed 500 career kills.
Erin Satterlee added 10 kills and surpassed 250 career kills as well.
MacMurray started out the first set with the opening two points, but Lowry got the Lady Blues on serve where
Mikayla Greenwood helped IC establish a 5-2 lead. The Highlanders would get within one point after that, but they would never tie the score up again in the set. After an IC attack error made it 12-11, the Lady Blues scored three straight to make it 15-11 and force MacMurray into its first timeout. The lead grew from there and Illinois College ended up with a comfortable seven-point margin by the finish.
The second set was actually tied at 3-3 before Lowry and Satterlee scored three straight points for the Lady Blues. From there, the lead grew and grew thanks to a litany of MacMurray errors. The Highlanders had only three kills in the set compared to nine errors. Given a brief reprieve after Greenwood sent a serve long, Mac gave up five points in a row to let IC extend a 15-11 edge all the way to 20-11. The Lady Blues went on to score the final five points again after the Highlanders had pulled a pair back and won by a score of 25-13.
Illinois College put the third set away almost immediately by scoring the first seven points to take a commanding lead. Lowry opened the set with a kill before two Greenwood aces and four straight MacMurray attack errors. The closest that the Highlanders would get the entire way was at 8-4, but they followed that with an error and kills from
Ogechi Uju-Eke, Crocher and Satterlee extended the margin back to 12-4. The Lady Blues cruised down the stretch to secure the sweep.
Lowry added 12 digs to her night's work to end with a double-double.
