TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Illinois College volleyball team made strides as the weekend went along, but came away empty-handed again on Sunday at the Rose-Hulman Tournament. The Lady Blues were defeated by the host institution in Sunday's opener by a 3-0 score (11-25, 18-25, 17-25), and then ended the day with a 3-1 loss to Anderson (IN) (11-25, 16-25, 25-17, 15-25).

Rose-Hulman 3, Illinois College 0
The offense never got going for Illinois College on Sunday morning. The Lady Blues produced just 19 kills in the match, a fact compounded by 14 attack errors and seven service errors.

The first set was tied at 5-5, but the Fightin' Engineers rattled off 10 of the next 11 points to put the Lady Blues in a hole they could not recover from. In the second, IC battled back to close a 19-7 deficit down to 23-18, but the final two points went the way of Rose-Hulman for a 2-0 lead. IC led briefly in the third set, holding a 3-2 edge after a kill from Holly Crocher. Rose-Hulman then went on a 6-0 burst to take control.

Crocher led IC with six kills in the match and a .357 hitting percentage. Courtney Louveau had eight assists and nine digs. Maurissa Moulton had a team-high 13 digs.

Anderson (IN) 3, Illinois College 1
The Lady Blues showed fight in the final match of the tournament after going down 2-0 in the match to Anderson. The Ravens were on fire in the first set, hitting .545 as a team for a 25-11 win. In the second set, nine attack errors from IC allowed Anderson to come away with the 25-16 decision.

In the third set, IC got it together, blasting 15 kills against only four attack errors. With the score tied at 9-9, the Lady Blues were able to string together eight of the next nine points for a 17-10 advantage. Lisa Lowry had two of the kills in that stretch. The final point went to Louveau with Lowry on the assist for the 25-17 victory to extend the match to a fourth set.

In the fourth, Anderson made quick work of it by going up 13-1. Kills from Lowry and Crocher were part of a quick three-point run to bring IC's deficit back into single-digits, but there simply wasn't enough time for the team to work its way back into it.

Crocher paced the team with 10 kills. Erin Washington added six of her own. Lowry had seven kills and 25 assists, while Katie Tonry had 17 digs.

Illinois College (1-4) returns home to Sherman Gymnasium next weekend to host a tournament on Sept. 12-13. The Lady Blues will have matches against Lakeland, Rockford, Culver-Stockton and Anderson. Central and Monmouth will also take part in the two-day event.
