Volleyball Suffers a Pair of Defeats on Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Illinois College volleyball team got off to a bumpy start in its first weekend away from home. Competing at the Rose-Hulman Tournament on Saturday, the Lady Blues lost two matches by scores of 3-0, first to Ohio Wesleyan (16-25, 8-25, 12-25), then later to Defiance (15-25, 14-25, 20-25).

Offensive struggles plagued the Lady Blues in their opening match of the day. Holly Crocher led the team with five kills, but the team committed 19 attack errors to take away much chance of victory.

Maurissa Moulton led the defensive effort with 22 digs in the match. Lisa Lowry added nine and Mikayla Greenwood had eight.

Defiance 3, Illinois College 0
IC had a much-improved effort later in the day, but fell to a deep Defiance squad. Crocher again led the offense with 10 kills and had six digs as well. Lowry had a great all-around performance with seven kills and a team-high .353 hitting percentage. She also added 10 assists and 13 digs for her first double-double of the season and had a pair of service aces as well.

Katie Tonry tied for match-high honors with 17 digs. Erin Washington had three kills and four block assists.

The Lady Blues will look to bounce back tomorrow morning with two more matches. They'll first play the hosts, Rose-Hulman, at 10 a.m. before closing out the weekend against Anderson University at 12 p.m.
