Brock Chartier,
Jordan Blair darted in and scored the first and only goal of the match with 4:06 left in the second half. With the win, Illinois College improves to 5-3-1 (1-0-0 Midwest Conference).
Far from an easy win for the Blueboys, the Pioneers held a 13-6 edge in shots in the match. Despite this disadvantage, goalkeeper
Scott Workman was able to prevent the Pioneers from scoring with six saves. Additionally, Illinois College was credited with three team saves.
"I'm incredibly proud of our resilience," Head Coach
Tyler Sheikh stated after the match. "In conference play it is all about game-to-game match-ups. The guys know their opponents and vice versa. In the end, on the road, we fought, stuck to our tactics and made one more play than a good Grinnell team."
The Blueboys will be back in action on Oct. 4 as they take on the Vikings of Lawrence University. Kick-off will be at 11 a.m. in Appleton, Wis.
