JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The signs of progress are there, but that doesn't always translate into victories right away. On Saturday inside Sherman Gymnasium, the Illinois College volleyball team lost a pair of matches to close out its home tournament against top-tier opposition in Culver-Stockton and Anderson.

IC remains at home a week from today, taking on Principia College at 10 a.m. and Missouri Valley College at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20.

Culver-Stockton 3, Illinois College 0
A three-set sweep (11-25, 10-25, 14-25) from Culver-Stockton started the day for the Lady Blues, a match that was far from a bad loss as the Wildcats ended the weekend at 4-0.

Illinois College came in with momentum from the night before, but couldn't get anything going against a squad that was firing on all cylinders right from the start. The Wildcats put down 43 kills against only 10 errors for the entire match and hit .379 as a team.

Holly Crocher paced the Lady Blues with six kills. Lisa Lowry had 10 assists and seven digs.

Anderson 3, Illinois College 1
For the second time in as many weeks, Anderson University won a four-set battle with the Lady Blues. Though the Lady Blues rallied to tie the match at a set apiece, the Ravens came away with the victory (27-29, 25-20, 17-25, 14-25).

The first set was where IC could have gained some early traction. Down 7-2, the team roared back into the set, which ended with the two sides tied on 12 occasions. The Lady Blues had set point on three occasions, but committed errors on each of the subsequent points to keep Anderson in it. Back-to-back kills from Kyanne Stewart eventually gave the Ravens the 1-0 lead.

Down 16-13 in the second set, IC reeled off five straight points to take the lead and never let Anderson catch up. Lowry and Erin Washington led the Lady Blues in the set with three kills apiece, while Allison Perkins helped limit the Ravens to a .021 hitting percentage in the set with six digs on the defensive end.

The match turned from there, however, with Anderson playing two nearly perfect sets to close it out. In the final two stanzas, the Ravens slammed 30 kills versus seven errors and hit .315 as a team.

Lowry, Washington and Danielle Hauch all tied for the team high in kills with eight. Courtney Louveau had a double-double with 19 assists and 17 digs. Lowry nearly ended with a triple-double in the match thanks to her 17 assists and 11 digs.
