Balanced Attack Leads Volleyball to Sweep of Beloit

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College volleyball team improved its Midwest Conference mark to 2-1 on the year with a 3-0 defeat (25-13, 25-23, 25-18) of Beloit College on Saturday afternoon. Holly Crocher had 10 kills in the match for the Lady Blues, who hit .232 as a team in improving to 5-10 on the season. 

Trailing, 7-6, in the first set Illinois College grabbed control by scoring five straight points. Mikayla Greenwood had a kill and an ace in that stretch, giving the Lady Blues a lead they would not relinquish. The Buccaneers continued to be baffled by Greenwood's serve throughout the set as the freshman recorded four service aces helping IC grab early control of the match with a 25-13 victory in the first set. 

Beloit put Illinois College into an early deficit in the second set, winning six out of the first eight points. IC would rally to tie the set at 14-14, forcing a timeout from the Beloit bench. The run would continue with the Lady Blues taking their first lead of the set and expanded it to as many as three points after an Erin Satterlee kill made it 23-20. From there, two Beloit attack errors gave IC a 2-0 lead in the match. 

The Lady Blues put the match away early in the third set. IC responded to another Beloit timeout by rattling off four straight points to extend a 14-9 lead to 18-9. The lead eventually grew to double-digits and IC earned a match point with a 24-13 lead. Beloit was able to stave off the loss with five points of its own until Satterlee gave IC the kill it needed, with an assist from Lisa Lowry

Satterlee added eight kills while Greenwood totaled seven to go with five aces. Lowry handed out 15 assists and recorded nine digs. Maurissa Moulton led the Lady Blues with 11 digs. 

Illinois College will return to action on Oct. 10 with a road match at Ripon beginning at 7 p.m.
