APPLETON, Wis. – After a third consecutive 1-0 win by the Illinois College men's soccer team on Saturday, the belief among the Blueboys has to be at an all-time high. Through rain and muddy field conditions, IC controlled the action against Lawrence University and were rewarded late on once again as Jordan Blair had the final touch on an 87th minute goal to secure the conference victory. The Blueboys improve to 6-3-1 on the season and 2-0-0 in the Midwest Conference.

"Start to finish we threw ourselves into a tough contest in difficult conditions," said Head Coach Tyler Sheikh. "The fellas said we hadn't won at Lawrence in a number of years, but mentally we were ready for a good team that played a good brand of soccer. Our focus helped to will the ball in the back of the net to earn the deserved three points and third shutout on the trot."

It was no less than what Illinois College deserved. Lawrence managed three shots in the match, but none were on target as reigning MWC Defensive Performer of the Week Scott Workman earned his fifth shutout of the season without having to make a save. On the opposite side of the field, IC peppered LU keeper Joe Krivit with 10 shots, forcing Krivit into six saves.

The payoff for Illinois College's pressure came in the dying minutes of regulation. Alex Gardner delivered a cross in that bounced around the box before settling just long enough for Blair to redirect it past Krivit for the winner.

The close to a five-match road trip comes tomorrow for the Blueboys when they face St. Norbert at 11 a.m. The Green Knights – ranked No. 22 in the latest NSCAA poll – started the season 7-0-0 before being held to a 2-2 draw against Monmouth on Saturday. IC returns home to England Stadium for five of its last seven to end the regular season.
