Lady Blues finish Invitational with win over Aurora

Alese Speckhart tallied a team-high nine kills and the Illinois College volleyball team won its first match of the season Saturday as Illinois College President Dr. Barbara A. Farley served as an honorary coach for the match. The Lady Blues downed Aurora University by scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-22, in their final match in the Illinois College Invitational.

Megan Moore and Erin Washington added seven and eight kills, respectively, in the win. Lisa Lowry recorded six kills and a team-high 30 assists. Allye Wuest had 23 digs.

The Lady Blues dropped their first match of the day Saturday, to UW-River Falls, by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-22. Speckhart had six kills and 15 digs, while Lowry dished out 17 assists, in the loss.

Speckhart and Lowry were both named to the all-tournament team. Speckhart led the Lady Blues in kills in all four matches over the weekend, racking up 33 over two days. Lowry dished out 82 assists, while also chipping in 15 kills and 43 digs. The Lady Blues went 1-3 in the four matches to start the season.

Culver-Stockton College was the only team to go undefeated in the tournament. UW-River Falls' Jean Theis was named the tournament MVP. Other members of the all-tournament team were: Tess Roundtree (Principia), Kamrin Gold (Culver-Stockton), Sarah Olesen (Aurora), Alyssa Anderson (UW-River Falls), Brooke Carroll (Culver-Stockton), Abbie Foster (Culver-Stockton) and Sammy Jo Petefish (MacMurray).
