Jay Rowell begins his fifth season on the Illinois College men's basketball staff in 2023-24.

Rowell most recently spent the 2018-19 season with Knox College as an assistant coach. Before that he spent two years each at Peoria Christian High School, Peoria Central High School and Tinley Park High School. During that time, he also spent six seasons as head coach of the Peoria Area Elite 16U AAU program.

Rowell is an United States Air Force veteran with seven years of service. He was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Award.
