David Seering is in his fourth year as the head esports coach for Illinois College. Seering possesses over a decade of experience in various esports titles and coaches each game that we offer.
The 2025-26 season saw the program reach unprecedented heights. All of IC’s teams, including the newest addition, Marvel Rivals, qualified for the national championships, while the Super Smash Bros squad captured the program’s first MVEC title. A total of six squad members - Lucas Barry, Meryn Davis, Dwight Duijneveld, Julian Luaders, Fray Moulton, and Jake Petrovich all earned All-Conference accolades.
IC finished the 2024-25 season with a combined record of 40-57 across Smash, Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Rocket League. Six players earned All-Midwest Valley Esports Conference honors, highlighted by Petrovich, who was named the Most Valuable Player in Smash. Lauders, Duijneveld, Noah Horsman, Glenn Conway, and Kieran Powers also received all-conference recognition. The team capped off the season as runner-up in the MVEC Smash Ultimate Tournament.
In his initial season on the Hilltop, Seering expanded the program to add four new titles: Valorant, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, and SSBU. He added the additions of Overwatch 2 and SSBUÂ prior to the 2024-25 season.Â
The inaugural season of Rocket League saw them get a top-three finish at the Spring Clash LAN in the MEC, as well as getting a player to be a Rookie of the Year finalist.
Before coming to IC, Seering served as the Head Esports Coach at Brescia University from 2021-2022. While at Brescia, Seering played an integral role in managing and coordinating the day-to-day operations, including recruiting, scheduling, and practices.Â
Seering served as the Head Esports Coach at Aquinas College from 2020-21 where he assisted in developing the League of Legends team by providing guidance and support to team members. In 2020-21, Seering was named the League of Legends Coach of the Year for the Saints.
Seering graduated from IC in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. David resides in Jacksonville with his wife, Abby.
