Coach White

Matthew White

Matthew White begins his eighth season with the Blueboys, and seventh as Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator in 2024.

Under Coach White’s watchful eye, the Blueboys pitching staff made significant gains in 2022. Their collective 273 strikeouts set the school record, while several individual performances also found their way into the Illinois College record book. Cullen McBride was the undisputed ace for the 2022 staff. His 12 games started (1st All-Time), 74 innings pitched (2nd All-Time), 70 strikeouts (3rd All-Time) helped earn him All-Conference and All-Region honors. Christian Stawar’s 12 starts tied McBride for the school record and Kole Lowry’s 5 wins came in 11th. The Blueboys finished 4th in the Midwest Conference, after earning their second conference tournament berth.

2021 was a great season for the Blueboys and on their way to the first conference title since 1995, several Blueboys pitchers found their way into the IC record book. Griffin King’s 11 starts (4th All-Time), 51 strikeouts (9th All-Time) and 6 victories (3rd All-Time), Christian Stawar’s 9 starts (10th All-Time), and Cullen McBride’s 7 saves (1st All-Time) were all pivotal to the success of the Blueboys season.

White’s pitchers also found their way into the IC record book prior to the 2021 season. Logan Love, Dentler Loschen, Austin Newton, Jake Schippert, and Ethan Crain all found their way into the top 10 of a variety of categories during 2018 and 2019. This culminated in Dylan Jones South Division Pitcher of the Year honor in 2018. His 12 starts (1st All-Time), 7 wins (1st All-Time), 82 innings pitched (1st All-Time), 71 strikeouts (1st All-Time), has set the bar in nearly every meaningful category.

Prior to joining the Blueboys coaching staff, White was a teacher and coach at Knoxville High School. White helped turn the Knoxville baseball program into a perennial regional title contender, going from inheriting a 7 win team to winning 21 games just a few seasons later. Several Knoxville athletes earned college athletic opportunities during this time.

White is a 2011 graduate of Illinois College. He was a 4 year member of the IC baseball program, pitching in a variety of roles over his career while majoring in History and Secondary Education. He resides in Jacksonville with his wife Stacy, a 2013 IC grad.
