Lady Blues Sweep Regular Season Finale

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Illinois College softball team put the finishing touches on the regular season with a sweep of Monmouth on Friday at the Monmouth Softball Field.

IC took both games by identical 8-0 scores.

The Lady Blues, who won the MWC regular season title on Sunday, are now 30-10 overall and 15-1 in conference play. Monmouth moves to 15-23 and 8-8.

Game 1: IC 8 Monmouth 0
IC opened the game with a run in the first inning when Gabby Miller stroked an RBI double. The Lady Blues added another tally in the fourth on a Bella Thien sacrifice fly and then broke the contest wide open with a six-spot in the top of the seventh.

Shelby Seiler had a two-run double, followed by a three-run blast by Brooke Loveall. Ezzy Mauermann roped a two-run double to close out the scoring.

One run was all Jordan Closs needed as she tossed a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts.

IC's Maddie Adams led the hit parade, going 4-for-5, while Loveall added three hits.

Game 2: IC 8 Monmouth 0 (6 innings)
The score and the result were the same in the nightcap as IC posted the six-inning win.

As it did in the opener, IC put a run on the board in the first inning when Miller stole home. The Lady Blues added a pair in the third. Adams scored on a Monmouth error, and then Kendall Cole rapped an RBI single to make it 3-0.

IC put the game away with a four-spot in the fourth, starting with Thien's RBI single, Adams' RBI groundout, and Miller stroking an RBI single before stealing home to score the third run of the frame.

Adams closed the scoring for the day by smacking a solo home run in the sixth to make it 8-0.

IC's duo of Cambria Currie and Avery Fritz were lights out in the circle. Currie started and allowed a hit with two strikeouts in her four innings of work. Fritz finished the final two innings and, like Currie, allowed just a hit with a pair of strikeouts.

The foursome of Adams, Miller, Currie, and Mauermann led the IC attack by collecting two hits each.

Blue Notes
