BELOIT, Wis. – The Illinois College softball team cruised to a Midwest Conference sweep of Beloit on Saturday at the Strong Complex Softball Field.
The Lady Blues opened the day with a 14-0, five-inning victory and then took the nightcap, 8-1.
IC is now 19-9 overall and 6-0 in Midwest Conference play. Beloit is now 2-24 and 0-4.
Game 1: IC 14 Beloit 0 (5 innings)
After a scoreless first inning, IC unloaded with eight runs in the top of the second.
Ezzy Mauermann got things started with a bases-loaded walk.
Raegan Rezba followed with another free pass with the bases full.
Maddie Adams then stroked an RBI single.
Alivia Darbe drove home a run on a Beloit error before
Kendall Cole provided the big blow, crushing a grand slam to make it 8-0.
The Lady Blues added a run in the third inning on an RBI double from Adams and then plated two in the fourth inning off a double by Mauermann and a fielder's choice by
Alyssa Teixeira. IC closed out the scoring with one in the fifth inning when
Tabitha Olsen stroked an RBI single to score
Allison Fraley.Â
Adams and Cole each collected two hits and four RBI for IC, while Mauermann added a pair of hits and two RBI.
In the circle, the Lady Blues'
Jordan Closs and
Christine Myers combined on a no-hitter. Closs worked the first three innings and recorded five strikeouts. Myers went the final two frames and had one strikeout.
Game 2: IC 8 Beloit 1
After spotting the Buccaneers a run in the first inning, IC came roaring back with four in the top the second.Â
Bella Thien got things started with an RBI single. Thien and Mauermann each scored on a play that featured two Beloit errors to make it 3-1 before Adams closed out the scoring in the inning by smacking an RBI triple.
The Lady Blues tacked on another run in the fifth inning when
Megan Doolittle drilled a two-run double. In the sixth inning, Mauermann hit a solo home run, and Cole added a sacrifice fly to close out the scoring.
IC had 14 hits in the game, led by Adams,
Gabby Miller, and
Lilly Siller, each recording two.
Avery Fritz started in the circle for IC, going five innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run with five strikeouts.
Cambria Currie closed out the contest, working the final two innings of hitless ball with three strikeouts.

IC continues its weekend road swing with a visit to Lake Forest tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
