JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College esports program picked up a crucial conference victory Wednesday as the Blueboys defeated Southern Illinois University 4–1 in NECC Rocket League action, while the Overwatch team dropped a 3–0 match to Morningside University in MVEC play.
Illinois College claimed four one-goal victories to secure the Rocket League series, winning Game 1 (3–2), Game 3 (2–1), Game 4 (3–2), and Game 5 (4–3). Southern Illinois took Game 2 by a 4–2 score.
Lucas Barry led the offensive effort with seven goals and five assists, finishing with 12 total goal contributions. Dwight Duijneveld added six goals and three assists, while Loegon Pete recorded four assists and nine saves. After opening the season 0–3, the Blueboys can finish 4–3 and earn a playoff spot with a win next week against Beloit.
Rocket League Box Score vs. Southern Illinois
In Overwatch play, Illinois College fell 3–0 to Morningside. IC lost the opening map on Ilios (Control) 2–0 before dropping Colosseo (Push) and Watchpoint Gibraltar (Escort) by 1–0 scores.
Illinois College competed without one of its top players after an account issue prevented participation under league rules, forcing the team to adjust its lineup.
