Lady Blues Split Sunday Games in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lady Blues wrapped up Sunday action on their spring break trip with a split, defeating Marian University 8–3 before falling to Alma College 9–5.

Illinois College now sits at 3–4 on the season.

Game One – Illinois College 8 Marian (Wis.) 3

The Lady Blues scored in four different innings and pulled away late to earn an 8–3 victory.

Illinois College struck first in the opening inning. Gabby Miller singled and advanced into scoring position before coming home on an error, and the Lady Blues added another run in the frame to take a 2-0 lead.

After Marian cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second, IC answered with two more runs in the bottom half. A sacrifice bunt moved runners into scoring position, and Maddie Adams delivered an RBI fielder's choice before later scoring to make it 4-1.

Marian pulled within one at 4-3 in the fourth, but the Lady Blues responded again. An error allowed a run to score in the fifth, and Illinois College broke the game open in the sixth. Adams singled home a run, and IC capitalized on a passed ball and a Marian error to extend the lead to 8-3.

Adams finished with a hit and two RBIs, while Ezzy Mauermann collected two hits and scored twice. Brooke Loveall added a double.

Jordan Closs earned the win in the circle, tossing six innings with eight strikeouts while allowing three runs. Currie closed out the final inning to secure the victory.

Game Two – Alma 9 Illinois College 5

In the afternoon game, the Lady Blues battled but came up short in a 9-5 loss to Alma.

Alma scored twice in the first inning to grab an early lead. Illinois College broke through in the fourth when Alivia Darbe tripled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Kendall Cole to make it 2-1.

The Lady Blues tied the game in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Adams, and in the sixth IC briefly grabbed a 5-3 advantage. Ezzy Mauermann delivered an RBI single, and a two-run error helped push the Lady Blues in front.

Alma responded with a six-run bottom of the sixth, using a series of singles and extra-base hits to regain control at 9–5.

Mauermann went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Darbe added a triple and scored a run, while Cole doubled and drove in a run.

The Lady Blues will be tested again tomorrow as they take on Trine University and Lebanon Valley College tomorrow in Clermont, Florida at 9:00 and 11:30.
