JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College esports team fell 3–0 to Cornell College in Midwest Esports Conference (MVEC) Overwatch action on Wednesday, but the match provided an important benchmark against one of the league's strongest programs.
Illinois College dropped the opening map on Ilios (Control) by a 2–0 score before pushing Cornell to the limit on both King's Row (Hybrid) and Route 66 (Escort), falling 3–2 on each map. Despite the sweep, the Blues showed clear progress by competing deep into two tightly contested maps.
Cornell, a team that reached the MVEC Grand Finals last season, presented a high-level challenge, and the match highlighted how far Illinois College has improved since last semester. The Blues entered the season knowing the conference would be highly competitive, and Wednesday's contest reinforced both the work still ahead and the growth already made.
The match also marked the first appearance of Fray Moulton with Illinois College. Moulton paired with Bunni Little on support, bringing an aggressive play style that added pressure and energy during team fights throughout the match.
A positive step forward for the program came off the server as well, as Blizzard has now introduced stat tracking through replay codes, allowing Illinois College to consistently record detailed Overwatch statistics moving forward.
