JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Illinois College Esports dropped a 2–0 decision to Cornell College on Monday night in Midwest Esports Conference Super Smash Bros. Ultimate action.
Cornell opened the match by taking Game 1 in decisive fashion, winning three of four sets to build an early series advantage. Jake Petrovich earned Illinois College's lone point of the game with a one-stock victory in Set 3.
Illinois College responded in Game 2, jumping out to a 2-0 lead behind a strong opening set from Julian Luaders. Petrovich added another point in Set 3 to give IC a 3-2 advantage, but Cornell closed the door in the final set to win Game 2, 4-3, and secure the series.
Despite entering the season as the preseason No. 1, Illinois College will look to reset and bounce back next week against Buena Vista University.
