Late Goal Sends WashU Past IC

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – A late goal in the second half was enough for WashU to escape with a 2-1 win over the Illinois College men's soccer team in the Blueboys' home opener on Sunday at England Stadium.

IC is now 1-1-1 after three matches, while the Bears moved to 3-1-0.

The first half was a stalemate on the scoreboard as both teams' defenses held strong.

WashU was able to break the deadlock early in the second half when they got on the board at the 49:24 mark.

The Blueboys responded just over five minutes later when Carter Uhlmann scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick.

The contest remained deadlocked until the 79:54 mark when the Bears tallied on a breakaway. WashU was able to hold off a strong IC push in the waning moments to earn the victory.

IC was outshot 26-9. J'aiden Cranwell-Meneses led the Blueboys with three shots. TJ Esseily went the distance in goal, recording nine saves.
