JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The 5th-seeded Illinois College Blueboys pulled off a statement win over 4th-seeded Ashland University, sweeping the best-of-three crew battle 2-0 in the MEC playoffs.
Game one was a grind, with both teams trading early stocks. Jake Petrovich shifted the momentum with a dominant 6-stock run, and Julian Luaders came in clutch, taking 5 stocks as the anchor to close out a narrow 1-0 victory.
Game two was all Blueboys, as Petrovich continued his streak with another 9 stocks, leading the charge in a convincing 3-0 win. Daniel Scott, Devin Ussert, and Luaders each played their roles, helping lock down the sweep.
Jake led the series with a monster 16 stocks taken, swapping from his usual Marth to Falco — a move that paid off big. Julian's consistent anchoring across both games was also a major factor in the win.
Although seeded lower, IC and Ashland entered with identical records, with Ashland holding the tiebreaker.
