Knox Takes Series Over IC with Early Outburst

GALESBURG, Ill.- The Blueboys dropped the rubber match of their Midwest Conference series against Knox College on Sunday, falling 6-2 on the road.

With the loss, Illinois College moved to 16-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while Knox improved to 11-10 and 3-3 in the league.

The Prairie Fire broke the game open in the second inning, scoring all six of their runs on five hits. Despite the early damage, Dawson Vernier settled in for IC, tossing five and two-thirds innings and allowing just two hits after the second frame. He fell to 1-3 on the season with the loss.

The Blueboys attempted a late push. Logan Schweigert put IC on the board with a solo home run, and Louie Bartletti doubled in the sixth before scoring on a Ketch Mills RBI single. However, the deficit proved too much to overcome.

Connor Akstulewicz provided a strong outing in relief, throwing two and a third hitless innings while striking out two.
