MT. VERNON, Iowa – The Illinois College softball team swept a Midwest Conference doubleheader from Cornell on Saturday at the Van Metre Family Softball Field.
IC took the opener, 5-0, and completed the sweep with a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.
The Lady Blues, who have won eight straight, are now 21-15 overall and 10-2 in conference play. Cornell dropped to 10-18 and 2-7.

As she has all week,
Jordan Closs was dominant in her start. The junior tossed seven shutout innings, allowing four hits with four strikeouts.
IC got all the runs it needed in the first inning when
Taylor Henry drilled an RBI double and then scored when
Kendall Cole rapped a single.
Brooke Loveall's sacrifice fly in the fifth added another run before the Lady Blues added two more in the sixth on
Ezzy Mauermann's single. Mauermann later scored on a Ram wild pitch.

Delaney Melton each had a pair of hits for IC.
Game 2: IC 7 CC 1
IC got off to a fast start, scoring three times in the first inning with the key play being an RBI single off the bat of
Halie Williams. Williams then singled in another run in the third.Â
The Lady Blues essentially put the game away in the fourth when
Kayla Serpa smacked a two-run double. Â IC added an insurance run in the sixth to close out its scoring.
The first inning runs were all starter Henry needed. She went the distance, allowing a run on four hits with five strikeouts. She also added two hits to aid her own cause.
Along with Henry's offense, Williams and Loveall each had two hits as well.

Today's games were originally scheduled to be played in Jacksonville, but due to the wet grounds and forecast of continued rain, the doubleheader was moved to Mt. Vernon.
