Blueboys Sweep Principia

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College baseball team turned on the power in the opening game and used a stellar pitching performance in the nightcap to sweep a doubleheader from Principia in the final non-conference contests of the season on Tuesday at Joe Brooks Field.

IC took the opening game, 19-4, and won the second contest, 9-3.

The Blueboys are now 15-9 overall. The Panthers fell to 2-19.

Game 1: IC 19 Principia 4
The offense got rolling early and never looked back, scoring at least two runs in each of the six innings they batted.

Louie Bartletti led the attack with a pair of hits including a triple with four RBI. Ryne Mapes, who had a double, and Connor Hennemann also collected a pair of hits for the Blueboys, who rapped out 16 as a team. Jon Tate (double) and Nick Williams (double) also had extra base hits for IC.

Chris Campau earned his first victory of the season on the hill, tossing four innings and allowing just a hit with two strikeouts.

Game 2: IC 9 Principia 3
Jacob Smith was the story as he pitched no-hit ball for the first 5 2/3 innings of the contest. He finished the outing by throwing 6 1/3 innings and allowing just three runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
