Blueboys Run Past Knox

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College football team rushed for 372 yards in a 64-14 victory over Knox in a Midwest Conference contest on Saturday at England Stadium.

IC is now 4-2 overall and 3-2 in Midwest Conference action. Knox is 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the league.

The Blueboys raced out to a quick 16-0 lead thanks to a 64-yard punt return for a touchdown by Timo Kato, a field goal by Toby McTamney, and a 40-yard touchdown pass from Tyson Elliott to Kyle Leonard.

Knox was able to cut the lead to 16-7 in the second quarter before IC closed out the first half with a six-yard touchdown run by Tanner Spencer and took a 24-7 advantage into halftime.

IC opened the second half by exploding for 28 unanswered points in a nine-plus-minute span. The onslaught began with a 50-yard touchdown by Lleyton Miller. Landon Grapperhaus then took an interception into the endzone before Tanner Spencer scooted 54 yards to a score. IC closed out the run with an 18-yard touchdown run from Justin Gipson.

The Prairie Fire scored late in the third quarter before Skyler Young scooted one yard for a score and Ki'on Carson dashed 50 yards to close out the scoring.

IC gained 539 yards on the day, including 372 on the ground. 

Gipson led the ground attack with 94 yards on 13 carries. Spencer had 84 yards on seven runs while Miller added 83 on five. Carson gained 61 yards on just two carries while Young had 30 on two trips.

The Blueboys' defense held Knox to 149 yards and was led by Drake Stuart's eight tackles. Connor McDowell added six and Blaze Helton five.

The Blueboys have now won 19 of their past 23 regular-season games, and IC has also won 24 of its last 30 games overall… IC has won 11 straight contests at England Stadium.

The Blueboys hit the road next week for their longest trip of the year as they travel to Ripon for a Midwest Conference contest that kicks off at Noon.
