JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois College women's tennis team continued the spring season by hosting the Panthers of Principia College for a dual match Tuesday evening at Bellatti Tennis Complex. The Lady Blues battled tough competition but ultimately fell short by the final of 2-7.
The Lady Blues were dealt a tough task with the Panthers as IC gained one-of-three doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, the duo of
Chloe Plough and
Sabrina Ingram battled their opponent closely by taking five sets but dropped the match by the score of 5-8. In the No. 2 doubles match,
Hannah Lueke and
Emma Artelt fought hard but dropped the set 2-8. IC earned the lone doubles match from forfeit.
In singles matches, the Lady Blues struggled to gain any traction and dropped five-of-six matches. In the No. 5 singles match, Artelt dropped the opening set 2-6 but responded with a 6-1 victory in the second set that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Artelt went point-for-point against her opponent but dropped the match 10-7 in the set.
In the No. 3 singles match,
Lily Ingram battled hard but fell in the opening set 2-6. Ingram responded in the second set by taking four set victories but fell 4-6.
The Lady Blues will travel to Kaskasia College on Wednesday, April 10 for a dual match starting at 3:30 PM in Centralia, Illinois.
