KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Illinois College softball team ran into tough pitching and dropped a pair of games, 2-1 to Marian and 9-1 to Aurora, on Thursday.
The Lady Blues moved to 3-8 on the season.
The opening contest of the day was a pitcher's dual as both teams were scoreless through the first four innings. Marian broke through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single.Â
IC chipped away and cut the lead to one with a run in their half of the seventh when
Calynn Gicante grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring
Kayla Serpa. That was as close as the Lady Blues would get.
The IC offense generated two hits – singles by
Allison Mortland and
Cheyenne Anderson.
Taylor Henry took the loss in the circle despite allowing just two runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Aurora jumped out to a 7-0 lead, scoring twice in the first, four times in the third and once more in the fourth. The Lady Blues got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Gicante drilled her first home run of the season.Â
Gicante finished the contest with two hits and the lone RBI. Anderson, Henry and
Claudia Adam had the other hits for IC.
Julia Drake took the loss. She allowed nine runs (four earned) on 12 hits with eight strikeouts in six innings of work.
