Josh Harris sank a 3pt. field goal as time expired to send Illinois College to a 59-57 victory over Dubuque in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Friday at the Washington University Field House.
The Blueboys continue their season with a 24-4 record after posting the first NCAA Tournament win in program history. Dubuque finished its season at 21-7. IC will face the winner of the Washington University-Wisconsin Lutheran match up tomorrow at 6:50 p.m.
IC was led by seniors
Jake Mazrimas and
Jahkeis Tippett who each scored 18 points. Mazrimas also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds while Tippett corralled eight. Harris was the other Blueboy to score in double figures with 14 points.Â
IC trailed 57-56 with 2.2 seconds remaining.
Buzz Ritzel inbounded the ball to Harris near half court. Harris then dribbled once, spun towards the basket and fired from approximately 35 feet. the shot went in as time expired, sending the Blueboy bench and fans into pandemonium.
