Blueboys Beat Blackburn, Improve to 2-0

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's basketball team had three players in double figures and rolled to a 76-58 victory over Blackburn on Monday at the Woodward Athletic Center.

IC improved to 2-0 on the season. Tonight was Blackburn's season opener.

The early portion of the contest was tight, and the teams were tied at 13 with 11:47 to play in the opening half. The Blueboys then went on a 24-9 run over the next 9:18 to extend their lead to 15 at 37-22 with 1:38 to play. IC took a 40-29 advantage into halftime.

Blackburn came out in the second half and got back into the game, cutting the Blueboys' lead to five (48-43) with 14:12 to play, but IC pulled away, outscoring the Beavers 28-15 the rest of the way to earn its second victory in as many starts this season.

Josh Harris led the Blueboys with a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds. Ty Lenhardt had a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while dishing out a team-best five assists. Buzz Ritzel added 13 points for the victors.

IC also got strong contributions off the bench from Javonte McKenzie who had nine points and six boards while Austin Robinson pulled down seven rebounds.

Blue Notes
IC has now won 34 of its last 39 games and 51 of the past 56… the Blueboys are 18-1 in their past 19 non-conference regular season games.

IC will host the annual Bill Merris Invitational this weekend. On Friday, Nebraska Wesleyan will meet Franklin at 5:30 p.m. with IC facing Concordia of Wisconsin at 7:30 p.m. The consolation game will be on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with the championship to follow at 3:00 p.m.
