Blueboys Blast Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. – The Illinois College football team blasted Knox, 77-34, on Saturday at Stisser Field at Knosher Bowl.

The victory moved the Blueboys to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Midwest Conference. The Prairie Fire dropped to 2-4 and 1-4.

This game was all IC from the outset, as the Blueboys raced out to a 21-0 first quarter lead. The scoring opened just under two minutes into the game when Collin Brunstein scored on a 12-yard pass from Destin Chance

Tanner Spencer made it 14-0 when he crashed in from two yards out. The IC defense closed out the opening quarter scoring when Connor McDowell scooped up a fumble and returned it 55 yards for a score.

After Knox scored its first touchdown of the half early in the second quarter, IC continued its offensive onslaught as Chance tossed a 36-yard touchdown pass before Spencer scampered in from 11 yards out.

Chance and Brunstein then connected on a pair to scoring passes to close out the half. The first was from 24 yards out and the second from 45.

The second half was much of the same. Chance threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter including a 40-yard strike to Will Campbell. Chance and Brunstein hooked up one last time to open the fourth quarter with a 24-yard connection.

The final IC points of the day came on a 34-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Tyson Elliott to Jordan Bethany.

Toby McTamney was perfect on his nine PAT attempts while Derek Frerker hit both of his as well.

Chance finished the game 21-for-29, good for 322 yards and seven touchdowns. Spencer carried the ball 15 times for 123 yards and a pair of scores while Brunstein grabbed 10 passes for 155 yards and four touchdowns.

Cam Dailey led the defense with 10 tackles. Garrett Bearden, Dylan Beadle, and Drake Stuart each had six stops for IC.

The Blueboys have won 12 of their past 14 regular-season games, and IC has also won 17 of its last 21 games overall… the Blueboys are averaging 57.6 points per game in their past 11 regular-season contests dating back to last season. This year, IC has already scored 276 points (46 ppg)… Brunstein, the first player in IC history to have 4,000 career receiving yards, now has 4,244 yards and 61 TD receptions (both school records)... he is the only player in IC history to catch over 60 touchdown passes. Collin also now has 184 career catches which is fourth in IC history and needs 25 to vault into third place. Chance now has 92 career TD passes and moved into second place in IC history, he needs 15 to become the school's all-time leader… his seven touchdown passes today was the second-best total in school history (he owns the record of eight which he accomplished twice last season).
