JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Illinois College had four players in double figures and used a late second half run to post an 80-67 win over Beloit in a battle of Midwest Conference unbeatens on Wednesday at Sherman Gymnasium.
The win moved the Blueboys to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference while the Buccaneers fell to 10-3 and 4-1.
IC was led by
Jake Mazrimas and
Buzz Ritzel who each scored 22 points. Mazrimas added eight rebounds as well.
Jahkeis Tippett chipped in with 11 points while
Austin Robinson came off the bench to provide a spark with 10 points and a team-high six assists.
The contest was nip and tuck throughout the first half and the Blueboys clung to a 36-35 advantage at halftime. The game stayed close for the first eight minutes of the second period as IC held a 50-48 lead with 12:49 to go before the Blueboys outscored the Buccaneers 30-19 over the final 11 minutes to post the victory.
IC is back in action again on Saturday when Ripon comes to Sherman Gymnasium for a 1:00 p.m. Midwest Conference contest.
