Women's Swimming Battled Monmouth Closely In Dual Meet

MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Illinois College women's swimming team battled the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College in a dual meet Saturday afternoon in Pepper Natatorium. The Lady Blues faced very tough competition but fell just short to the Fighting Scots by the final score of 107-119.

The team got off to a solid start as the 400-yard medley relay team of Jenna Kenning, Julia Edwards, Emma Dunsworth, and Jena Sellers earned four points with a second-place finish with a finals time of 4:32.26. 

In the 1,000-yard freestyle event, IC earned 16 points led by Abigail Glaser with nine points as she earned a first-place finish with a finals time of 12:22.99. Delaney Goddard and Cassie Reeve combined to earn seven points with second and third place finishes with final times of 12:49.28 and 12:57.58.
     
IC gained six additional points in the 200-yard freestyle event led by the dual-sport athlete in Lauren Sinclair with a third-place finish with a finals time of 2:18.15. Betsey Bates contributed two points in the event with a fourth-place finish with a finals time of 2:30.83 while Sam Godlewski added one point with a finals time of 2:33.69.

The Lady Blues dominated the 50-yard breaststroke event as Sellers and Edwards combined for 13 points with first and second place finishes. Sellers earned a first-place medal with a finals time of 35:00 seconds while Edwards finished second with a finals time of 35.23 seconds.  

In the 100-yard butterfly event, IC earned six points from Dunsworth and Emily Wickerham with second and fourth place finishes with final times of 1:12.82 seconds and 1:15.66 seconds. Immediately following the butterfly event, Kenning earned the Lady Blues nine points in the 50-yard freestyle event with a first-place finish with a finals time of 27.71 seconds. 

IC added 14 points in consecutive events; the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke with back-to-back second and third place finishes. In the 100-yard freestyle, Sinclair and Godlewski displayed finals time of 1:03.68 and 1:12.49 seconds. In the 100-yard backstroke, Kenning and Madelynn Depover recorded final times of 1:05.39 and 1:17.97 seconds respectively.

The duo of Sellers and Edwards earned an additional 13 points for the team in the 100-yard breaststroke event by earning first and second place overall finishes with final times of 1:15.37 and 1:16.51 seconds respectively. IC added seven additional points in the 50-yard butterfly with second and third place finishes from Dunsworth and Wickerham with final times of 32.21 and 33.80 seconds.       

In the final event of the meet, IC had three seperate pairings in the 200-yard freestyle relay event that second, third, and fifth place finishes. The first IC relay team of Kenning, Sellers, Reeve, and Sinclair earned a second-place finish with a finals time of 1:54.14 seconds. The second IC relay team that hit the wall included Goddard, Glaser, Edwards, and Dunsworth earned third-place finish with a finals time of 2:00.50 seconds. The relay team of Mackenzie Strong, Godlewski, Bates, and Wickerham had a finals time of 2:18.16 seconds. 

The Lady Blues will participate in the Midwest Conference Championships hosted by Grinnell College on February 16-18 in Grinnell, Iowa.
