MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Illinois College men's swimming team traveled to Monmouth College for a dual meet Saturday afternoon. The Blueboys battled the Fighting Scots but fell short by the score of 89-145.
In the first event of the meet, the 400-yard medley relay team of
John Masiliunas,
Cooper Meyer,
Eli Eberle, and
Nathen Trachta got the Blueboys off to a great start by winning the relay event with a finals time of 3:49.82 for 11 points.
In the men's 1,000-yard freestyle event, IC's
James Hammond earned a second-place finish with a finals time of 11:40.81 with his fastest time was 31.83 seconds. In the 50-yard breaststroke, Meyer earned a second-place finish with a finals time of 30.71 seconds while
Brice Montout placed fourth with a time of 42.77 seconds.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Trachta earned a second-place finish with a finals time of 54.74 seconds while Hammond earned fourth with a time of 1:03.80. In the 50-yard freestyle, IC had four competitors in the event led by Eberle with a first-place finished with a finals time of 22.31 as Masiliunas finished second with a time of 25.88 seconds.
Steven Doss and Montout earned fourth and fifth place finishes with times of 27.41 seconds and 31.87 seconds respectively.
In the 100-yard freestyle, IC had four competitors in the event led by Eberle with a second-place finish with a finals time of 50.82 seconds while Doss earned two points with a final time of 1:01.84. Montout and
Matthew Billenstein had finishing times of 1:38.48 and 1:45.65 seconds respectively.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Trachta earned the Blueboys nine points with a first-place finish with a finals time of 5:09.10 as Hammond earned three points for a third-place finish with a finals time of 5:38.25 while Xavier Applegate earned two points with a fourth-place finish with a finals time of 5:57.28.
IC gained 11 points in the 200-yard freestyle relay event as the team of Eberle, Masiliunas, Meyer, and Trachta earned a a first-place finish with a finals time of 1:36.07 where Trachta had the fastest time of 23.39 seconds.
The Blueboys will travel to Grinnell, Iowa on February 16-18 to participate in the Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Grinnell College.
