BELOIT, Wis. – Illinois College secured a big road win by having three players in double figures as it defeated Beloit, 72-69, in a Midwest Conference game on Saturday at Flood Arena.
The win kept the Blueboys alone in first place in the league at 8-1 while moving their overall record to 16-2. The Buccaneers dropped to 11-7 and 5-5.
Buzz Ritzel scored 16 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists for IC while
Jake Mazrimas also had 16 points.
Josh Harris scored 11 of his 14 in the first half to help the Blueboys erase an early deficit.
Austin Robinson came off the bench to contribute nine points and four rebounds.
The teams were tied at 27 with 3:35 to go in the opening half. IC then went on an 11-2 run to take a 38-29 lead into halftime. It turned out to be a lead IC would never relinquish.
IC grew its lead to as much as 12 points (66-54) with 6:46 remaining. The Buccaneers made one last run and whittled the IC advantage down to 70-69 with just five seconds to play but Ritzel drilled a pair of free throws with just under two seconds left to seal the win.
The Blueboys return home for a pair of conference games next week starting on Tuesday when Cornell comes to Sherman Gymnasium for a 5:30 p.m. start.
