RIPON, Wis. - The Illinois College football team traveled to face the Red Hawks of Ripon College in a Midwest Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Blueboys defeated the Red Hawks by a final score of 52-21. IC improves to 2-1 overall this season and 1-1 in the MWC.
IC was led by
Destin Chance as he threw for 337 passing yards with five touchdowns.
Collin Brunstein was the Blueboys leading receiver with 10 receptions for 183 yards and four receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. The four receiving touchdowns tied a school record with Michael Jennings and Brock Thompson.
Thomas Little led the team in rushing with 133 yards and one touchdown. IC defense was led by
Charlie Patterson with eight total tackles as
Garrett Bearden had seven tackles that included a 13-yard sack.
On the first IC drive of the game, Little busted up the middle for a 51-yard touchdown that gave IC the early 6-0 lead. After a successful extra point attempt from
Toby McTamney, IC lead 7-0. Ripon answered back with a touchdown and extra point that tied the game at 7-7. Chance then connected with Brunstein on a 22-yard reception for a touchdown that put IC back on top at 14-7. After a three-and-out from the Blueboys defense, Chance drove the team into the Red Hawks redzone when he found
Cameron Lewis for a 10-yard touchdown pass that increase the IC lead to 21-7. This gave the Blueboys the early lead 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Chance connected with Brunstein for a 20-yard touchdown that made the score 28-14. IC would take advantage of a fumble by Ripon and it was recovered by Bearden near midfield. Chance once again led the team into Red Hawks territory. On 4th and 1, IC was on the Red Hawks goal line when Brunstein took the handoff to the right and ran it in for a touchdown. IC took the 42-14 lead at halftime.
Ripon answered back with a touchdown on their first drive of the second half that made the score 42-21. Three plays later, Chance launched a 60-yard deep ball to Brunstein for a touchdown that increased the lead to 49-21. In the fourth quarter, McTamney made a 21-yard field goal for the final points of the game.
The Blueboys will host Monmouth College on Saturday, September 30 at 1:00 PM at England Stadium.
