Lady Blues Softball Wraps Up 2023 Season After MWC Championship Against Grinnell

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Lady Blues hosted the MWC Tournament over the weekend. The team earned a win against Lake Forest on day two to advance to the MWC Championship against Grinnell. The Lady Blues fell short in the championship game with a final of 4-5. 

GAME 1- Illinois College 4, Lake Forest College 2

Calynn Gicante led the Lady Blues earning the win in the circle pitching 5.0 innings with four strikeouts. She also finished the game going two for three at the plate with one RBI.

Claudia Adam also had an impressive game at the plate going two for three with one run scored and two RBI. 

IC took the lead after scoring three runs in the second inning. A single by Gicante brought in another run by Kiya Hagene to secure the victory against the Foresters. 

GAME 2- Illinois College 4, Grinnell College 5

After a long rain delay, the game was moved from Jessica Kamp Softball Field to the Future Champions Complex. The score was tied 4-4 at the end of the seventh inning to extend the game. 

Grinnell would earn the win on a base hit in the bottom of the eighth to claim the MWC Tournament title. 

Kayla Serpa led the team going two for three at the plate with one RBI. Julia Drake pitched the entire 7.2 innings for IC recording four strikeouts. 

The Lady Blues conclude the 2023 season with an overall record of 25-16-1.
