JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College baseball team hosted Blackburn College in a doubleheader on Wednesday. The team earned a sweep over the Beavers to advance to 4-9 overall this season.
GAME 1- Illinois College 14, Blackburn College 0 (7 innings)
The Blueboys exploded offensively in game one of the day. IC had five home runs by four different players to build a substantial lead.
Peyton Phillis led the team going a perfect four for four at the plate with two homers and six runs batted in.
Griffin King earned the shutout win at the mound pitching all 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts.
GAME 2- Illinois College 10, Blackburn College 3 (7 innings)
The Blueboys continued the momentum into the second game of the day. Blackburn would stand ahead after a homer of their own to make the score 2-3 in the top of the third. King would answer with a three-run homer to put the Blueboys back on top.
IC held on to complete the sweep against the Beavers. Phillis and
Caleb Uselton led the team going two for four at the plate scoring two runs each.
The Blueboys will begin their conference schedule on the road at Cornell College on Saturday, 3/25 for a doubleheader at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
