Esports Drops Two In Competitive Weekend of Competition

2/6/2023 2:40:00 PM

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- Illinois College entered week 2 of MEC competition facing off against a new addition to the Conference in Briarcliff University. The entire series was very close as the team saw only a 200 gold differential at the 20 minute mark in the first game. Peter Forman "255" and Noah Postin "TheDicey" were able to find advantages in the early game that lead to some intense team fights.  Briarcliff's Grandmaster "Maces" applied split pressure on his Camille and ultimately shot-called his team to victory (according to Deadpool who was interviewed after the game).

In game two, IC was able to achieve an early gold lead and hold it until around the 14 minute mark. Amazingly, the gold differential around the 20 minute mark was only a few hundred.  IC jungler 255 had another solid game and Tristan Fissette "Loneforce" was able to find some big picks on support champion Lux.  However, Briarcliff was able to outmaneuver IC in the team fights leading to a 0-2 loss for the Blueboys.

The second match of the weekend featured IC taking on University of Illinois. IC struggled to gain momentum and was outmatched both games.

Illini Esports fielded multiple Grandmaster and Challenger players, drafted extremely well, and piloted their champions with little mistakes.  IC found a few windows and had some shining moments, especially in game two. The gold deficit was within 2k around 15 minutes. IC carry player Kevin Tran "Sagewabe" had a few moments on Zeri that seemed promising but the enemy carry, Challenger player "lubheart", was able to snowball the game on Lucian and close out before Sagewabe could take over.
