JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Coming off the most successful season in school history, the Illinois College men's basketball team picked up where it left off by opening the 2023-24 campaign with a 64-48 victory over Webster on Wednesday at Sherman Gymnasium.
The Blueboys never trailed in the contest and were led by
Buzz Ritzel's game-high 20 points. The 6-3 junior from Nashville, Ill. also grabbed eight rebounds and recorded a pair of steals on the night.
Nestor Daboin aided the IC cause with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while
Jahkeis Tippett had 12 points.
Jake Mazrimas contributed to the victory with 12 rebounds.
The Blueboys dominated the glass on the evening, out rebounding the Gorloks 54-32 forcing Webster to shoot just .299 (20-67) from the field.
The Blueboys return to action on Monday when they entertain Blackburn College in Sherman Gymnasium. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
