Box Score BELOIT, WI – The Illinois College men's soccer squad christened themselves as Midwest Conference champions with a 5-1 victory over Beloit on Saturday at the Strong Stadium Complex.
By virtue of winning the league title, Illinois College, who improved to 10-4-3 overall and 5-1-2 in league play, will host the annual Midwest Conference Championship for the first time in program history on Friday and Saturday at England Stadium.
The Blueboys opened the scoring just 3:36 into the match when
Tyler Lunning found the back of the net off a feed from
Thomas Menke. IC closed out the first half scoring when
Josh Platzbecker scored on an assist by IC
Thomas Menke.
Beloit, which dropped to 3-10-2 overall and 3-3-2 in Midwest Conference play, answered with a goal just 2:47 into the second half but then the Blueboys offense exploded for three goals, the first coming from
Albert Nimako off a feed from
Eric Espinoza. Five seconds later Espinoza scored his own goal with
Tyler Schiltz getting the assist.
Nimako added his second goal of the day at the 53:59 mark.
The Midwest Conference Championships will be held Friday and Saturday at England Stadium. Pairings will be announced later this weekend.
