Blueboys Football Break Four Records In 72-0 Victory Over Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. - The Illinois College football team traveled to Lawrence University for a Midwest Conference contest on Saturday. The Blueboys shattered numerous records and achieved a 72-0 blowout victory over the Vikings. IC now stands at at 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the MWC. 

IC's Destin Chance and Collin Brunstein etched their names into the IC football history books with spectacular individual performances. Chance is now the All-Time leader in Blueboy football history with EIGHT passing touchdowns in a game as all eight came in the first half.

Brunstein etched his name deeper in the IC record books by breaking three records; most receiving touchdowns in a game with FIVE, the single season receiving yards record with 1,417 receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns with 19. 

Defensively, Garrett Bearden led IC with seven total tackles that included 6.5 tackles for loss and four sacks while adding an interception. Charlie Patterson, Cam Dailey, and Amare Wallace each recorded at least one sack in the victory.  

In the opening Viking drive, the Blueboy defense held Lawrence to a three-and-out that gave IC their first possession. In the opening IC drive, Chance connected with Brunstein for a 67-yard touchdown as Toby McTamney added the extra point for the early 7-0 lead. On the next Blueboy possession, Chance delivered a fantastic pass to Brunstein for a 63-yard touchdown. Chance connected with Brunstein again for a 46-yard touchdown that capped out the first quarter for a 21-0 advantage. 

Early in the second quarter, Chance led the offense down to the nine-yard line of Lawrence when he connected with William Campbell for a receiving touchdown that made the score 28-0. Two plays later, Bearden intercepted the pass from Vikings quarterback Aidan Williams that set up the offense in striking distance. On a 3rd and three, Chance connected with Campbell for a 17-yard touchdown. 

With 10 minutes remaining in the half, Chance delivered a deep ball to Brunstein for a 47-yard touchdown. Shortly later, Chance added another passing touchdown as he found Cameron Lewis for a one-yard catch in the endzone. In the final minute of the first half, Chance connected with Brunstein for a 43-yard touchdown that made the score 56-0 at halftime. 

In the third quarter, IC added touchdown from Keith Gilchrese Jr with on a one-yard rushing touchdown. Shortly later and on 4th and goal, McTamney added a successful 19-yard field goal that made the score 66-0. On the final scoring drive of the game, Gilchrese Jr added his second rushing touchdown of the day with a eight-yard carry. 

The Blueboys will host Grinnell College on Saturday, October 28 at 1:00 PM for a MWC matchup in England Stadium.
