DECATUR, Ill. - The Illinois College men's and women's teams opened the 2023-24 season with a visit to Millikin University for a dual meet also against North Central College. Both teams defeated the Cardinals and won both medley relays in the overall placement.
The men's 200-yard medley team of
Xaiver Applegate,
Eli Eberle,
Nathen Trachta, and
Tristan Pottebaum finished with a relay time of 1:47.90. The women's 200-yard medley relay team of
Jenna Kenning, Julie Edwards,
Emma Dunsworth, and
Jena Sellers finished with a final time of 2:04.39.
Trachta led the men's team in the 200-yard freestyle as he finished first in the event with a time of 1:55:17. Trachta also led the men's team in the 100-yard butterfly as he finished first with a final time of 58.56. Eberle led IC in the 100-yard freestyle as he finished first in the event with a time of 51.24. IC's
Cooper Meyer led the Blueboys with a time of 24:30 which earned a second-place finish, He was followed closely by first-year swimmer
Tristan Pottebaum as finished with a time of  24.77.Â
Abigail Glaser dominated the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events for the women's team as earned first places finishes with overall times of 6:03.15 and 12:26.47 respectively. Edwards led the Lady Blues in the 100-yard breast stroke as she finished first with a overall time of 1:16.91
To cap out Diversity Week, IC's
Mackenzie Strong and
Matthew Billenstein who battled many obstacles in the water competed in the dual meet on Saturday. Strong finished third-overall in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:41.71 and raced in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 7:06.49. Billenstein achieved a personal best in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 45.19 and competed in the 100-yard freestyle and finished with a time 1:49.85.
Both swim teams will host Monmouth College on Saturday, November 4 at 11:00 AM. Â
