Blueboys Fall Short In Thrilling Game Against Ripon On Homecoming

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys hosted Ripon College on homecoming weekend this Saturday. The game came down to the final possessions with Ripon coming away with the win 21-23. This drops IC to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the MWC.

The Blueboys were led by Quarterback Logan Wongler with an impressive showing in his first start for IC. He finished the game with 97 yards passing and 44 rushing yards with two rushing touchdowns. Trevor Smalls was the lead rusher for IC with 48 yards in the game. Chase Blanquart led the Blueboys receiving core with two catches for 40 yards.

Defensively, IC was led by Brayton Moss totaling 11 tackles and one forced fumble. Stuart Wolf was a standout recording 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble.

IC started off with great field position after a blocked punt by Donovan Armstrong set the team up at the Ripon eight yard line. Bobby Nelson was able to punch in the score to give the Blueboys the first points of the day. The IC defense continued their hot start on the first play of Ripon's next drive. Moss forced a fumble that was recovered by IC to give the team another chance to extend their lead.

The Blueboys would do just that, capping off a long drive with a three-yard touchdown run by Wongler to put the team ahead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Ripon was able to respond putting up 17 points in the second quarter to take the lead 14-17 heading into halftime.

The second half proved to be highly contested. IC recorded another blocked punt to set them up in great field position at the Ripon 22 yard line. Wongler would get into the endzone for his second score of the day to put IC back on top 21-17. Ripon put together a drive late in the fourth quarter to retake the lead on a touchdown rush. Ripon would miss the extra point to make the score 21-23. IC had their chances down the stretch, but were not able to regain the lead and would walk away with the loss.

The Blueboys will look forward to next week as they travel to take on Lake Forest College on Saturday, 10/8 at 2:00 PM.
