DECATUR, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys wrapped up their historic 2021 season after falling to Transylvania in the NCAA Tournament with a final of 4-8. The team finishes the year with an overall record of 21-19 and 16-8 in the MWC.
IC was able to score first in the top of the third with a run by
Peyton Phillis. Trent Youngb would answer for the Pioneers with a triple in the fourth inning bringing in three runs to jump ahead of the Blueboys. Transylvania would add another run in the inning to stand ahead 4-1.
Peyton Abbott helped provide a spark for the Blueboys offense with a double in the top of the sixth bringing in two runs by
Griffin King and
Cade Hennemann. This would make the score 4-3 with IC down just one run.
Transylvania then jumped to a demanding lead relying on strong hitting to scoring four runs in the seventh to go up 8-3. The Blueboys put up an impressive effort but were unable to complete the comeback and would suffer the loss to the Pioneers.
Griffin King represented the Blueboys on the mound to start the game pitching four innings with three strikeouts.
Cullen McBride contributed three innings earning four strikeouts.
Ryan Matheny and
Levi Parkevich would take over the pitching duties to finish the contest for the Blueboys.
The team finishes the season as the first team in IC baseball history to make it to the NCAA Tournament.
