JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys took on the Monmouth College Fighting Scots in a make-up game that was rained out earlier this season on Monday night. The team was able to pick up the win to improve to 19-17 overall and 16-8 in the MWC.
IC would get on the board first after a sacrifice fly by
Cade Hennemann brought in a run by
Caleb Uselton. Monmouth would answer back to take the lead in the top of the third 2-1.
The Blueboys put together a strong offensive run in the bottom of the fourth inning. A double by
Cullen McBride would bring in two runs to put the Blueboys back on top.
Kellen Blum then singled to bring in McBride and
Griffin King to extend the Blueboys lead to 5-2. IC would go on to score three more runs in the inning to hold a demanding advantage over the Scots.
Monmouth then battled back scoring five runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Blueboys lead to just one run. IC would add a run in the seventh, and McBride would seal the win with a double bringing in a run by Uselton in the bottom of the eighth.
Ryan Matheny earned the win at the mound pitching for three innings earning three strikeouts. McBride was awarded his sixth save of the season after coming in at the end of the game to secure the win for IC.
The Blueboys wait to see the results of the rest of the MWC regular season competition to see if they have earned their way into the MWC Baseball Championship.
