JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- The Illinois College Blueboys took on the Lake Forest College Foresters on Saturday evening. IC would fall to the Foresters with a final score of 21-14 in their home opener.
Andrew Gaul led the team in passing with 117 yards and one touchdown.
Trevor Smalls led the Blueboys in the ground game rushing for 65 yards with one touchdown.
The Blueboys were able to strike first capping off a seven play 58 yard drive with a one yard touchdown run by Smalls. This would give IC the lead 7-0 after the made extra point.
Lake Forest would earn a safety on a blocked punt to make the score 7-2. This would be the score as the game headed to halftime.
Illinois College would come out firing on their first drive of the third quarter connecting on a 79 yard bomb from Gaul to
Collin Brunstein for a huge touchdown to give the Blueboys the 14-2 lead.
The Foresters would answer back with another safety and a 10 yard rushing touchdown by A.J. Jackson at the end of the third to cut the Blueboys lead to 14-11.
The fourth quarter proved to be an exciting finale to the contest. The Foresters would take the lead after two more safeties and a touchdown run by Armani Brown to make the score 21-14.
Illinois College would get the chance to tie the game after receiving the ball on the IC 20 yard line with 3:18 left in regulation. After two big pickups through the air, the Blueboys would stand in scoring position at the Lake Forest 30 yard line. The drive would stall for the Blueboys after the Lake Forest defense was able to make a stand to secure the victory with a final score of 21-14.
