JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team came agonizingly close to its first victory of the 2020 season on Saturday before succumbing to Knox College by a score of 5-4. The Prairie Fire took two of the three doubles matches and the teams then split the points during six singles matches.
Jacob McQueen and
Shane Koshikawa won their doubles match at No. 2 for the Blueboys, 8-7(2). Those two also won their singles matches with McQueen taking down Brad Newland at No. 3 (6-1, 6-3) and Koshikawa defeating Jared Schwarz at No. 4 (6-3, 6-4).
Ethan Sabotta had the other point for Illinois College, winning his No. 1 singles match over Ajay Gustafson (6-2, 2-6, 7-5).
IC returns to non-conference action next weekend with a 12 p.m. match at Fontbonne University on March 14.
