JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Behind a career-high 25 points from
Trae Robinson III and nearly 65 percent shooting from the floor as a team, the Illinois College men's basketball team closed out the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday night with a 95-69 demolition of Knox College.
After a back-and-forth start to the game for the first three minutes, a
Tre Rogers three-pointer started a 11-0 run for Illinois College that put the Blueboys ahead, 17-8. The last time that Knox was even within single digits came with 11 minutes left in the first half. A three-point play from Robinson gave IC a 23-12 lead and the cushion would grow to 23 points just before halftime. Knox cut it to 20, 52-32, with a three-pointer just before the halftime horn.
Outside of an 8-0 Knox run in the second half that momentarily brought the Illinois College lead back to 70-51, the Blueboys rarely struggled to find an offensive rhythm. A 10-0 run immediately followed for the Blueboys, the first five points of the run supplied by
Henry Hayer. That 80-51 bulge would be the largest of the night for IC and the rest of the second half offered no surprises from the Prairie Fire.
Robinson scored his 25 on 10-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from the line.
Hunter Ottensmeier was 8-of-11 from the floor en route to a 21-point night. Rogers (15),
Jake Mazrimas (11) and Hayer (10) all reached double-digits as well.
Riley Mehrens dished out nine assists on the night.
