LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Illinois College women's basketball team hung with Lake Forest College for a half, but the Foresters took control in the third quarter and cruised to a 93-72 win on Friday night. The Lady Blues fall to 8-10 (4-7 Midwest Conference) with the loss.
Early in the first quarter, the lead went back and forth between the two teams until a Kelsey Burton three-pointer at the midway point of the frame gave Lake Forest an 11-9 lead. The Foresters pulled ahead by as much as 14 points in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but the Lady Blues rallied back and cut the Lake Forest lead down to a single point with two minutes remaining until the half. A flurry of offense late in the quarter gave LFC a 43-38 halftime advantage.
Junie Zirkelbach opened the scoring in the third quarter and brought Illinois College back within three, but an 11-0 run from Lake Forest later in the quarter took the margin up to 17. The closest the Lady Blues would get after that was 13 points and that came with less than three minutes remaining in the contest. The Foresters ended the night on a 9-1 run to put it away.
Megan Price knocked down five three-pointers and tied for game-high honors with 20 points.
Carly Cameron had 14 points and
Grace Yaunches added 13.
Illinois College closes out the weekend with a 3 p.m. game at Beloit College tomorrow afternoon.
