RIPON, Wis. – The Illinois College men's basketball team fell behind early and could never make up the deficit on Saturday in a 91-64 road loss to Ripon College. The Red Hawks get revenge for an earlier loss to the Blueboys, improving to 9-6 (5-3 Midwest Conference). IC drops to 4-11 (2-6 MWC) on the year.
The contest was close for about seven minutes before Ripon went on a 9-0 run, holding IC scoreless for more than three minutes and taking a 24-12 lead midway through the first half. Later on, the Red Hawks went on a 12-0 run to extend a 33-24 advantage out to 45-24. Four points from
Benton Singleton late in the half made it 45-28 at the break.
A three-pointer from
Jaxson Dian with 8:39 remaining made it 66-49 and left the teams level in the second half. The Blueboys could get no closer however, as Ripon started a 10-0 run from there to end any hopes of an IC comeback.
Singleton and
Tre Rogers led Illinois College with 10 points on the afternoon. Five players scored in double-figures for Ripon, led by Trent Jones with 18.
The Blueboys come back to Sherman Gymnasium on Tuesday night, hosting Monmouth College at 5:30 p.m.
