RICHMOND, Ind. – The Illinois College women's soccer team has shown an early ability to put the ball in the back of the net, notching 10 goals in the first two matches of the season entering play on Saturday. That offense was missing for the Lady Blues today however, with Earlham College outshooting IC by a wide margin in a 3-0 victory.
One of the few chances in the match for Illinois College came quickly as
Charity Yount directed a header on-goal in the first five minutes, but Mel Johnson made the save for the Quakers. Earlham broke the deadlock with a goal in the 15th minute from Jenna Hoeh and added another in the 38th minute from Eva Lyon.
The Lady Blues made a change in goal at halftime, bringing on freshman
Savannah Henson for some action. She did well in her half of play, but Earlham was able to add to its lead with a 72nd-minute goal from Nicole Burkett. That 3-0 lead held up the rest of the way.
Besides Yount,
Katie Elmore and
Morgan Lallish also directed shots on goal in the match for Illinois College.
Charlotte Crofton made nine saves in the first half and Henson made two in the second.
IC returns home for its next match, a 7:30 p.m. non-conference tilt with Principia College on Sept. 10.
