GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's soccer team fell to Greenville University in their final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday night, 2-1. The Blueboys went down a goal at the half and then 2-0 just past the hour mark before pulling one back through
Brock Ziegemeier. IC was unable to tie the score however and ended the match a man down following a late red card. The Blueboys enter Midwest Conference play at 4-5-2.
The scoring opened in the 36th minute with a goal from Jared McPeek. Juan Salazar stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute with McPeek assisting. Illinois College had an answer in the 69th minute on a header from Ziegemeier.
Thomas Saitta supplied the delivery to make it 2-1.
Ziegemeier led Illinois College with four shots on the night.
Spencer Bloome added three, two of which required saves from Greenville keeper Nick Holland.
Raul Rubalcava was tagged with the loss despite making nine saves.
MWC play begins on Saturday for Illinois College with a road match at Lawrence University. The Blueboys and Vikings will get underway at 1:30 p.m. in Appleton, Wis. following the conclusion of the women's match between the two sides.
